Recycle

26% of our grey bin waste is avoidable food waste.

WE CAN ALL RECYCLE MORE.

BUT IT CAN BE A BIT CONFUSING.... READ ON!

Please make sure all recycling in the GEEN bin is clean, dry & loose.

We want Overton to lead the Borough in reducing grey bin waste and recycling everything we can.

On average each household puts 12kg of rubbish into the grey bin every week. That's over half a tonne every year! We pay a small fortune for collection and disposal through our Council Tax.  And we're throwing away scarce resources such as metals, paper and textiles that are still usable.

Only 5.6kg of recycling goes into our green bins each fortnight, less than a quarter of the amount we throw away.

If you're like us, you might get confused about what can and can't go in the Green Bin. This page will hopefully help!

WHAT GOES IN THE GREEN BIN?

  • Clean paper and card (no food-stained pizza boxes, they contaminate the whole bin)

  • Empty food and drink cans (including pet food tins)

  • Empty Aerosols

  • Plastic bottles - water & drinks bottles, milk bottles, shampoo & shower gel bottles, kitchen cleaner spray bottles, loo cleaner bottles.

Please ensure they are empty

and give them a quick wash

Planning meals, buying less can help, or freezing leftovers. See lovefoodhatewaste.com for more information
