What is a Clothes Swap?

Trade your old garments for new-to-you-treasures

Clothes Swapping - or swishing or swap shop - is the best way to update your wardrobe without spending money. Knowing that these clothes are staying out of landfill whilst also giving someone else a new-to-them treasure is so rewarding.

So, we’re talking about those clothes that for some reason never see the light of day, even though they are beautiful. Or the ones that still have the tag on!! Sacrilege! Or even old ones that were of excellent quality when you bought them and even though you loved them 5 years ago, you don’t wear them anymore. Those ones! Get them out from the back of the cupboard and ready by washing them, airing them, ironing them and bagging them up ready for The Big Swap!

We don't care much about labels, we care about quality. As long as all items are in great condition, we can accept them. The clothes can be any size as long as they are in great condition and clean.

How Does It Work?

  1. Drop your donations between 11am-12 pm and get your tokens*

  2. We hang all the clothes. They will be sorted by item & size (just like in a normal shop)

  3. Return at 11.50am for a browse - first 4 through the door gets a copy of the book “How to break up with fast fashion”

  4. Swap starts at 12pm

  5. Choose your new-to-you items. Try them on in the changing room at the back of the hall. Pay for your new treasures using your tokens

  6. Scan the QR code to fill in the feedback form (e.g. so we know if you want this event to return next year?)

  7. Share your finds on the socials #sustainableoverton

  8. Swap ends at 2pm

*We will accept clothes throughout the swap as well, but to make it more manageable please aim to bring your clothes between 11am-12pm.

The Guidelines

  1. Bring up to 10 items

  2. One token per item as a general rule, but you may be given several tokens for a higher value garment, such as a prom dress or a suit

  3. Bring only clothes you would happily give to a friend

  4. The clothes must be in good condition

  5. The clothes must be free of faults or major repairs

  6. The clothes must be clean (any that are not clean we will have to refuse)

  7. Bring only adult sizes

  8. We will take sportswear that still has good elasticity incl. sports bras.

  9. No shoes

  10. No accessories

  11. No underwear or bras

  12. No workwear

No clothes to swap? No problem, get one token on entry and go find that one special item!

Giving away items you no longer wear but you know still have life in them is a gift to the planet and your neighbours, so go and get those items out of your wardrobe (you know which ones!!) and get them ready for The Swap!
