MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Here are the projects and information we have created to make it easier for you to live more sustainably, from easy changes for hectic lives to more substantial changes.

BORROW AN OVERTON CUP

Forgot your reusable cup again? No problem! All our coffee shops have an Overton Cup for you to hire. You pay £1 deposit to borrow the cup and get it back when you return it undamaged to any of our coffee shops or the grocers. A silicone lid is available to purchase for £1. It's by no means a perfect cup or solution, but it's so much better than a disposable one.

BORROW AN OVERTON BAG

Many of our village businesses have our Overton Bags available for you to borrow if you have forgotten to bring a bag with you. Just return it next time you visit a participating shop so it's available to be used by somebody else. Please get in touch if you would like to sew bags for us. We always need more.

BORROW A THERMAL CAMERA

The thermal imaging camera will show you where your house might leak heat. You will be surprised at where and how much heat escapes, even if you live in a relatively new house. The camera works only in the colder months and must be used in the dark. Borrow it from PJH Estate Agents in the village. For more information, please email us.

RECYCLING AT THE CHURCH

Whilst we are aware that reducing is better than recycling, the Ê»recycling shed’, to the left of the church entrance, gives you the opportunity to recycle more items and raise money for charity at the same time. Working with the E.C.O. church committee we are collecting plastic items to recycle through the national Terracycle scheme. To see what you can deposit at the church bins click the link below and check the Facebook group for updates to the scheme.

RECYCLING IN THE VILLAGE

ACTIVE TRAVEL

Did you know it only takes 20 minutes to walk from the station to Sapley Lane? Active travel is choosing to go by foot, bike, scooter or rollerblades -whatever takes your fancy - in and around the village. There are proposals to improve walking zones and cycling routes in and around Overton. If put in place these could vastly improve the feeling of safety when going by foot or bike in our village and to and from nearby towns.

FOOD WASTE

In the UK, 140 meals are wasted per person per year. Food waste represents 8% of global warming. So, if we all made some simple reductions, it would make a huge impact. An average family in Overton could save up to £70 a month by making a few simple changes to habits. Click below to get tips on what you and your family can do to waste less food.
