Sustainable Overton Achieves Charitable Status

We’re thrilled to announce the next chapter of our journey: in September 2025, Sustainable Overton officially became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This marks a huge milestone for us as a community-led group and sets the foundation for a stronger, more sustainable future for Overton.

Becoming a CIO isn’t just a change of name. It’s formal recognition of the work we’ve been doing for years — from our very first days as a Parish Council working group to the thriving, independent organisation we are today. To achieve charitable status, we had to clearly define our purpose, appoint Trustees, and commit to sharing our progress openly each year with the Charity Commission, where it will be available for all to see.

Why does this matter?

  • Credibility: Charitable status is a hallmark of trust. It shows we are accountable, transparent, and operating for the public good.

  • Longevity: It ensures that Sustainable Overton will continue to thrive long into the future, not just as a project but as a lasting part of the community.

  • Opportunities: It opens doors to funding, grants, and partnerships that will allow us to expand our impact.

While our legal structure has changed, our day-to-day work remains the same: running community events, supporting green spaces, and making it easier for residents to live sustainably.

We’d love more people to join us on this journey. Whether you can lend your skills as a Trustee, help with communications and admin, get hands-on at events, or support one of our green space projects, there’s a role for everyone. Local businesses can also support us through corporate volunteering schemes.

Together, we can build an even stronger, greener Overton.
